Re-instating 4.86
We will be putting 4.86 back into the game until further notice.
The options have been stripped down to:
investigating other mods or keeping and possibly modifying 4.86.

The original player database will be re-instated.
This will happen in the coming days.
Thank you for your patience.

RE: Re-instating 4.86
Well, at least I'll get my old bases and ships back then.
Good to see a decision has been reached.

RE: Re-instating 4.86
Will there be a problem with prompting the 4.87 update every time you run ?

And will you be posting a console message on the 4.87 game, and will you be making any provisions for the new or returned players who did not have accounts on 4.86 ? < Just a thought Smile

RE: Re-instating 4.86
In your root directory of 4.86, where the .exe is, there is a file named dsupdate.cfg.
NOTE: It is not the dsupdate.exe, not the dsupdate.dll!

If you 'edit' this file named dsupdate.cfg, you will see this on the first few lines...

[version]
vernum = 27
[updatesettings]
flmoddir = Discovery486

change these lines ONLY to this..
vernum = 4875
[updatesettings]
flmoddir = Discovery487

that will stop the prompt wanting you to update I think.

If it does look for the update servers it will error anyway.
As the servers have changed.

RE: Re-instating 4.86
Although Fae's technique may work, since the 4.87 release, all of the files on the disco servers has changed. This means even if you run dsupdate.exe directly, you shouldn't be prompted to update regardless of if you have 4.86.

The only instance I've been able to get it to fire off an update is if I didn't already have the latest version of 4.86, which is update 6. There is still one web site that will give you the latest patch of 4.86 at this time if you run an update check from update 5.

4.87 required a full fresh install of Freelancer to work, so I have my doubts of them ever changing it so you can acquire 4.87 from updating 4.86. Just my input on the updates query.

Links because I can:

Discovery 4.86 Original
Discovery 4.86 Update 6 Requires Disco 4.86 Original

RE: Re-instating 4.86
Thanks for the prompt replies, but the game plays normally with no prompts, had to reinstall/repair Freelancer (original) on one pc but the other worked straight away,
Dont forget to link FL companion to your 4.86 install as the wiki maps wont be much good to you Smile

RE: Re-instating 4.86
I'm going to chuck those files on my server too, so you guys can download them if they ever disappear from those sites. I'll let you know the link once I have downloaded them and made it available....May be a while though as I'm busy today

RE: Re-instating 4.86
Your files should still contain the money.
VIPs were told to not sell there VIP ships.

@ Extronic,
thanks heaps mate, sounds like a good idea.
When ready, make a new thread and we can sticky/lock it with some help instructions.
